Painting has always had the magical ability to portray images and to attract an audience without ever becoming an outdated form of representation. Painting is a world of its own. “A Glimpse of French Contemporary Painting” invites 8 French artists. Already featured in solo or group exhibitions in France and abroad, it is the first time their work is displayed in Macao. Through some impressive and creative art works, the exhibition highlights these outstanding and promising French artists, selected for being all highly “daring” and dedicated to painting, both figurative or abstract, or somewhere enigmatically in between. They declare themselves painters, and brilliantly demonstrate that this form of art is doing amazingly well in France.
Simultaneously old and new, traditional and modern, painting is a truly inventive technique, now free from many former constraints regarding the subject, support or space. Presently exploring new modalities and broadening its scope, painting is a way of thinking, of looking at things and seeing the world. Their paintings have made a significant contribution to contemporary art.
Because painting is always there to be seen, this art remains strong and still. Unlike any other medium, painting can be a fixed presence in our lives, a privileged moment and a necessity in today’s world when images relentlessly flash by one after another.
